Europe’s first museum dedicated to quilting and textile arts opens its new facility on 7 June 2008, in historic York’s medieval St Anthony’s Hall.  The Quilt Museum and Gallery will become the national headquarters of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles and its world-famous Heritage Collection

Heritage Lottery Fund Awarded to York's Newest Museum PDF Print E-mail

Fiona Diaper of the Quilt Museum and Gallery with Fiona Spiers of the Heritage Lottery FundThe Quilt Museum and Gallery, scheduled to open to the public on 7 June, has been awarded £193,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop education and volunteer programmes over the next three years.

New Museum dedicated to quilting and textile arts opens in York in June 2008

Image: D Whiteley, University of YorkEurope’s first and only museum dedicated to quilting and textile arts opens its new facility in June 2008, in historic York’s medieval St Anthony’s Hall.  The Quilt Museum and Gallery will become the national headquarters of the Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles and its world-famous Heritage Collection.

From 7 June, visitors young and old will be able to enjoy not only the wonderful colours, textures and patterns of quilts and textiles ancient and modern on display, but also be encouraged to find out more, and even try their hand at this traditional, and hugely popular, range of crafts.

Project Update: January 2008 PDF Print E-mail

Image: J TurnerThings are starting to get very exciting now as 2008 is here and we approach the opening of our new Quilt Museum and Gallery in York.

St Anthony’s Hall is to be handed over to us at the end of January so we can begin the work on fitting out the interior for our needs -- setting up the gallery hanging system, the quilt store, and the library.  We still aim for the physical move from Halifax to York to take place in February or March, leaving us with time to get settled in before the grand opening in early summer.
