This blue satin bed jacket is round-necked and machine-quilted in square diamonds. It has three frog fasteners and cotton wadding. It was made on a machine with a series of needles all doing a repeat zigzag pattern, which are offset to make the diamond pattern. This can be seen where the corners of the zigzags don't quite match up, leaving a gap.

The quilted fabric would have been produced using the pantograph technique, whereby the operator would follow a design punched out on a board and due to the large number of needles all following this design movement, a large amount of fabric could be made quite quickly. It is likely jacket would still have been made up by a company rather than being made at home from the pre-quilted fabric. The frog fasteners do not seem to match the colours and date of the jacket, and are probably a later addition/alteration.
