Small child’s coverlet made from bright pink, black and yellow check cotton edged with a white cotton broiderie anglaise frill and decorated with twelve appliquéd handkerchief squares, each decorated with a stylized Crinoline Lady carrying a parasol made out of striped and spotted handkerchiefs and roughly embroidered in coloured cotton thread. The coverlet was made for Aline Dean by her aunt, Mae Marshall who was from Seaton Delaval in Northumbria, in the 1940s.
