1941

This coverlet is a meticulous pieced and appliquéd work of flowers, forming a central bouquet which has all been sewn and embroidered by hand. The maker, Myfanwy Pryce, was born in 1890 in North Wales, and developed a love of flowers and gardening from her mother Margaret, the daughter of Lydia and Hugh Davies who were reputed to have made the Small Frame Coverlet.

Myfanwy became a popular romantic novelist in the 1930s. Her books include, ‘The Wood Ends’, ‘The Wild Oats’ and ‘Lady in the Dark’. Her coverlets are heavily influenced by her passion for flowers, and the carefully appliquéd roses, delphiniums, fuchsias and tulips are bordered by different trailing leaves in this un-quilted coverlet.
